Our Top 5 Kitchen Design Apps

Before you begin a kitchen or bath renovation or remodel you must consider a few important elements, namely: the vision, the plan, the budget and the research. It’s a lot to manage on your own, and often the reason why homeowners hire professional designers and decorators.

Whether you’ve hired some help or you’re embarking on your remodel on your own, a couple of streamlined kitchen design apps will be your new best friend. We’ve assembled a few of our favorites.

Blanco Canada Silgranit Sink Selector

by BLANCO Canada

FREE in the App Store, coming soon for Android

BLANCO’s Silgranit Sink Selector is the perfect app to help you select the BLANCO Silgranit sink that’s right for you. First, you can select a sink matched to your decorating criteria. Then the app will help you match your sink to a countertop letting you preview how they look together.

It’s really easy to find a sink. If you’re working with a blank slate you can search by sink style, colour and details, and whether your want undermount or top mount. Refine your search based on your cabinet size to find sinks that will fit your existing countertop. You can also select a stone or laminate countertop based on material and colour.

The best feature of this app? You can use your smartphone or tablet’s built-in camera to snap pictures of other countertops and upload them to the gallery. We think you’ll enjoy this app if you want to get right down to the nitty-gritty: you can get an idea of how these items will look in your kitchen, then find them at a retailer near you.

Caesarstone

by Caesarstone

FREE in the App Store

Caesarstone’s app makes choosing a countertop a breeze.

Need inspiration? You can browse the full product catalog by colour and collection, as well as photo galleries of finished kitchens and bathrooms. The app also features an interactive module that lets you drag, drop and match surface colours to cabinets.

Like Blanco’s app, you can take pictures of things for colour swatches and the app will find the closest Caesarstone countertop to match. Once you’re ready to make your vision a reality, use the locater feature to easily find the retailer or showroom closest to you and get information on the products they have available.

Get social with your wishlist by saving your favorite colours and designs to the app’s notebook to compare, review and share on Facebook.

We like this app because it provides rich features and functions without going overboard; it will help you focus on finding the products in the colour, shape and size that you want.

Remodelista

by Remodelista LLC

$2.99 in the App Store (or FREE for LITE version)

Remodelista has already made a name for itself as an online sourcebook followed by design devotees like Gwyneth Paltrow and stylists and architects worldwide.

What can you do with it? If you’re looking for the perfect couch, interested in DIYs, or want inspiration to refresh your space, this app is full of images that will get your creativity flowing.

We like Remodelista because it’s easy to browse inspiring architecture, stylist DIY projects, 10 Easy Pieces product roundups and Steal This Look.

The app is a strong all-around design app, but you can get off track pretty quickly if all you want is an app to help with a kitchen remodeling project.

Houzz Interior Design

by Houzz Inc.

FREE in the App Store

Like Remodelista, this app is the result of a popular online idea book for all things related to home renovation, design and decoration. Called “the Wikipedia of interior and exterior design” by CNN, Houzz has the largest database of home design ideas on the net, with over 500,000 high-resolution photos.

In their app you can browse photos by style, room and location and save them to your virtual idea book. It’s really simple to search, save, and share – plus your photos are saved locally so that you don’t need to be in the app to view them.

The Houzz app can even help you find local designers, architects and contractors to help you. And by sharing your idea book, they’ll have a great idea of what you’re trying to accomplish.

This is another great app for all-around home design, but it will require a bit of concentration to stick just to kitchen and bath ideas.

The Kitchen & Bath Channel

by Z promotion & design

FREE in the App Store, the Google Play Store (Android), and Blackberry App World

The Kitchen & Bath Channel app will connect you with professionals who can help with your kitchen or bathroom remodel project. It has a database of over 15,000 designers, builders, woodworkers, and retailers. You can search for a professional in your area based on several custom parameters and often even view examples of their work. You can also phone or email designers and contractors directly through the app.

We like this app because not every project is suitable for DIY – and we take kitchens very seriously! Need a bit of professional support or someone to take on the entire project? This may be the only app you need.
